What is Autism?
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurological and developmental disorder that affects how people interact with others, communicate, learn, and behave. Autism is known as a “spectrum” disorder because there is wide variation in the type and severity of symptoms people experience.
Early Signs
of Autism
While each child and their circumstances are different, here are some common signs of Autism for parents and guardians to watch for.

Repetitive behaviors (putting items into lines or groups

Repeat words or phrases over and over

Difficulty understanding other people's feelings or their own

Have no speech or delayed speech

Walking on toes or delay of walking

Don't respond to their name

Lack of fear or more fear than expected

Love or need routine
-
Have little awareness of danger or pain

Few or no communicative gestures (pointing, waving, reaching)

Avoid eye contact

Flap their hands, rock their body, or spin in circles

Want to be alone/ low or no social interest
